Background of the Study
Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, which lasted from 2010 to 2015, introduced the “Transformation Agenda,” which was aimed at improving the efficiency of the public sector and promoting sustainable economic development in Nigeria. The agenda focused on key areas such as infrastructure development, human capital development, and governance reforms. The objective was to modernize public institutions, improve service delivery, and foster an environment conducive to private sector growth and investment.
In Adamawa State, particularly in Yola North, the capital of the state, the public sector plays a crucial role in governance and service delivery. The state has faced significant developmental challenges due to security concerns and resource management issues. The Transformation Agenda aimed to address these challenges by improving the efficiency of public institutions at both the federal and state levels, particularly in sectors such as education, health, and infrastructure.
This study seeks to assess the impact of Jonathan’s Transformation Agenda on the efficiency of the public sector in Yola North. It will examine how the policy initiatives implemented under the agenda affected public service delivery, governance practices, and the management of state resources in the region. The research will explore both the successes and challenges of these reforms, providing insights into the practical effects of Jonathan’s policies on the local administration and the population of Yola North.
